Cool now tell us how to get our browsers to play higher channel audio encoding on videos. Because it's all meaningless if our source material is only 2 channel because our browsers can't play 5.1 channel audio.
I mean this specifically on streaming services like Netflix, HBO, etc.
If you want really immersive audio, you can do 22.2, which I don't know how much content you can even consume, or how you'd even set that up. However, I'm sure Linus would attempt to do that expensive of a setup if made aware of the idea (and I hope that happens one day)
Got a 7.1.4 mastering room at work, and with our consoles 3D panner you can automate a mono signal "node" spinning around you head moving up and down, its awesome
Is this an old video uploaded? This is way old news.
Oh boy how much do I love when my friends start to argue with me that their Gaming Dolby Atmos RGB 7.1 headphones or cell phone with Dolby Atmos support can simulate surround sound just as good if not better then mine 7.1 home theater in the living room with Pioneer Elite receiver.
What if you have a subwoofer, a front and center channel, one more channel on either side of it, two wall mounted speakers in the back wall near the ceiling that angle downwards slightly, a wall mounted speaker on the right and left wall of the room but also towards the back of it which are angled downwards slightly as well, and three more wall mounted speakers in a diagonally downward angled part of the ceiling/wall at the front of the room? What would that be called? 10.1? This is actually what I have and I really am curious by the way so if anyone knows please respond.
I miss the greenscreen :(
Cover Fry's electronics and now where do we go NOW???? Solutions, please... I am NOT, shopping at BB or Egghead!!!!!!!!
Can these get better surround experience than headphones that directly shoots into your ear?
Usually I get a bit dissapointed at the sound at the cinema compared what I have at home😅😅 BTW: It's not just dialoge in the center. Other effects relative to the scene also happens there. And fun fact: Most "Subwoofers" sold (atleast cheap ones) can't even go subsonic so they are basicly "bass boxes". Does not mean It's bad of course.
My TV is from 2008, back when they actually built real speakers into the panel. Now, they've figured out they can sell you a soundbar as well if they just make those speakers really bad.
Me who a speaker nerd for years: *INTERESTING*
Soundbars are overrated.
Why are the only options for subtitles in Vietnamese
It should be noted that most AVRs don't actually output 2 discrete LFE channels. Even if you have 9 subs in your room, it would still be 5.1, not 5.9.
Don't buy Logitech Z607 5.1 speaker it's shit and the 5.1 don't work.
thanks for the clarification :) but could answer a query, how can I fix or augment my pc to stop audio muffling? YT muffles my audio, but FB doesn't
Usually two or more subwoofers is not for more sound but for more stable sound. As low frequencies bounce around the room it creates 'nodes' or areas of high amplitude and areas of low amplitude due to sound waves interfering with themselves. This means a different listening experience depending on where people are sitting. Two or more subwoofers can help flatten these fluctuations of volume around the room.
If 2.1 was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me.
Please cover for others that for USB Type A slots, where the icon is seen www.vectorico.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/usb-symbol-300x300.png that is the 'Top-Side' of the USB. ;)
Video suggestion: Why do the graphics seem to take a dip when playing in split-screen mode?
Because the game is now dealing with two cameras and is doing double the rendering, So graphics dip to avoid slideshow.
Who needs the .1 if the main speakers go as low as 30hz.. Thanks Tannoy😏
Can someone explain why DEfasts on my Samsung tv plays in Dolby digital? There is no need for that since DEfasts doesn’t support surround sound.
I honestly prefer Stereo to surround sound, I just use quality stereo speakers and not the tv speakers.

Kenwood amp with 2 JVC tower speaks provides GREAT sound. Dinky surround speakers in my experience are just a pain to setup and makes movies weirder to watch. I actually prefer when sound comes from the area where the action is, IE: The TV area. I don't need to feel like I'm IN the action, I just need to feel like I'm privy to it.

and important thing to note is the new eARC port on TVs enable full uncompressed 7.1 surround sound (which means support for DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD. if the TV itself has this bandwidth feature enabled in eARC). So folks if you're running out buying fancy receivers just make sure the hdmi ports / w.e ports you use on your device supports the intended setup. A good chart from CNET: cnet4.cbsistatic.com/img/AcTzYakgH95k4bi_F7y0bZxEJ-A=/1092x0/2019/03/01/636fc33b-9d6c-401f-be92-649f543cf26a/earc.jpg
Reminder: you only have 2 ear holes, so theoretically you can get just as good a surround with 2 speakers as you can with 9
@Tera Star To be fair to your story actually, one thing I can think of is that the soundbar had dolby atmos upfiring speakers built into it, and the room you were in had a nice flat ceiling for that sound to reflect off of. Dolby atmos uses a very interesting spatial processing technique that through using ceiling or upwards firing speakers can emulate objects around you. But do keep in mind that atmos and regular stereo are very different technologies.
@CockatooDude Honestly it was a while ago and i dont remember, i think it was some kinda animal/wildlife clips with sounds coming from different directions. They would remove the fake speaker while the sound is coming from there. The room was rather small so that might be how it worked so well, probably not as immersive in a larger space compared to real surround.
@Tera Star I mean, did they demo a 5.1 system with the same demo track running through it after they did the one with the soundbar. Also, what did the demo consist of. Was it just panning left to right or were there sounds coming from every direction?
@CockatooDude well, yeah. They had other speaker demos there too
@Tera Star Did they demo the system with surround speakers engaged as well? That test is a bit silly unless they demoed both and let you compare the two.
Here is my question... How do I watch disney plus, hbo max, hulu, or other web broswer only sites in 5.1 on my windows pc? Netflix has an app that works in 5.1 on windows. I watch HBO max and Netflix in the safari browser on my mac in true 5.1 with the same speaker setup, so I know that it is possible. I cannot get true 5.1 to come out of my windows pc from any movie streaming service from my browser. Years ago I know that I had VUDU in chrome working at 5.1 on my windows system, but I can't do it anymore. I have recently been to www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/multichannel.html and those files play in 5.1 in chrome just fine, why aren't movie streaming sites doing 5.1 anymore?
Idea for the next topix: Room acoustics and how to improve it. Especially at the bass frequency range. I know so many people spending lots of money for audio components, but they do not notice, that the sound is still far away from being great because of bad room acoustics or missing knowledge. Too much bass, echoes and absent frequencies. There are some possibilities to counteract the bad sound. Correct positioning of the speakers, sound absorbers, sound diffusers, furniture, eletronic sound correction, ... I would appreciate it very much if you could make a short video explanation for that :) Best wishes from germany!

Dude!!! You're a grown man making professional videos. Clean your damn nose before you turn on the cam. All I see now is that damn booger.
5.1 is perfectly fine. Everything has at least 5.1 and it can be much cheaper to setup a 5.1 system. I bought a high end 5.1 THX Certified receiver from 2002, ( Onkyo $85, new was $1100 ) a 5 speaker setup of Klipsch with tower fronts and smaller Center and rears ( $500 normal $1000 at X-Mas time ) Klipsch 12" Sub with Amp ($250) ( I have an Alpine car sub in a sealed box with a 250w AudioSource Amp and car electronic X-Over because I already had them ) 100 feet of pure copper 16 ga speaker wire, 2 lines run per front speaker and 1 line to each surround, 2 lines run to the subwoofer from AudioSource Amp ) 55" Grid array backlight LCD tv 1080p ( $449 new ) and Pioneer Elite Blue-ray player with DVD up-converter ( $150 used ) My whole close to movie theater setup, costs only around $1200 total. It makes for a really good music listening setup as well. I buy DVD's and the Pioneer player makes them look close to BR quality but they load and operate lie normal DVD, not like the slower BR players. I use HDMI to the tv from the BR player, and optical digital cable from the cable to the Receiver for 5.1 audio to the amp. New amps give direct HDMI connections ( my 2002 has ZERO hdmi connections ) but using the optical cable works the same and I didn't have to buy a $1000 new Receiver to be close in quality. My amp weights 33 pounds vs newer ones weighting 5-10 pounds less due to lesser power supplies. I can't wait to watch John Wick 4 on HBO max later this year. I have all the Wick dvd's and the audio is awesome. Anyway, you don't have to spend a fortune to get great home theater high fi if you ok shopping used. All the richer folks getting the newer units to switch HDMI cables that I don't need. ( I use digital coaxial out from the DVD player to the amp for listening to CD's and the HDMI out is for movies to the tv )
4+Center+Sub. ppl dont know this?

Dolby atmos sounds so gud 😧
IMO: The LTT channels have been less and less about giving information and more about making jokes. This video in particular is all right, but...it seems like they've been more focused on being popular than giving good content...trying to create meme-y, funny content. Since no one will actually read this, I'll digress and also mention that Linus goes out of his way to yell at companies. I don't think they care much and frankly, it makes him look unprofessional and childish. It therefore think less of him and therefore less of his advice. Noting issues is good, but blasting them with swearwords because you "need to get it off your chest"....ugh. No you don't. Everyone has thoughts. Send out a tweet if "needed". These complaints are not on the street. They're business complaints. As an adult and as a business owner, you should know how to better navigate these situations to convey what you'd like. While it may be effective to some viewers, many, imo, will see it as unprofessional. We're here for the information more than your rants. There is a place for that, but it shouldn't be a proportionately large amount of your content.
A good quality 2.1 system is miles better than crappy/cheapo 5.1 or 7.1 setups that most people run thinking that bigger number of speakers must be necessarily better. It's not.
4:09 I remember when I first found out my computer monitor had built-in speakers, after a couple of software updates. They... function.
You don't need a .1 channel when all of your speakers are loudspeakers. I think I'm kindof an outlier using just two MTX AAL 154's for my stereo sound for my computer. Sadly most pieces of content are not mixed for loudspeakers and also sadly my 10'x12' room is likely too small for the sound from a set of 15" loudspeakers to propagate.
Problem with a speakers' bass woofer is that they have a big frequency range, which is why having a dedicated (sub)woofer to handle the
Tbh when the screen is a speaker I personally don’t think anything can beat that for pinpoint onscreen immersion. I just wish I could find a way to use it in tandem with my speaker setup.
Thank you. Since using headphones is the trend in gaming, new young gamers don't know how to connect surround speakers, and when they figure, they can't get their stereo music in surround mode. And they get mad. Besides, active surround speakers for PC are more rare today. Logitech has the latest one, and is kind of crappy.
What 17.4 sound really sounds
As a owner of a Dali Zensor home theather i can tell you, that besides when you whatch Movies you will also love them for Musik. If they look good, even your Girlfriend will love it.
A sub a center and 2 fronts n 2 backs. There ya go.
Do a techquickie on auro-3d their upmixing is insane and tracks coded in it typically sound much better than Atmos or DTS:X
Upward firing never sounds as good as ceiling speakers. :)
My home theatre is cheaper than most soundbars and sounds a hell of a lot better than any cinema I have ever been to. (It is very home made though, and I do use things like equaliser apo and the built in analog outs (7.1).
at least it have sound
I still haven't jumped ship to anything above 5.1 yet
I think most ceiling mounted speakers are built to be surround sound, since I've seen them in plenty of houses that predate Atmos. But depending on where you put your couch, they can still be great for Atmos.
Meanwhile me got one sided earphone failing
Let's be honest. Lot of us don't need these kind of setup.
Imagine being that rich
But surely it pointless having 7.2 or 9.2.4 if the film your watching is recorded in stereo
stupid request, can you do a video on the history of chip sets on MOBO. as in when AMD and Intel motherboards stopped being interchangeable, when NVIDIA stopped making chip sets and what the future might hold.

What is this, the 90s? The Computer Chronicles already covered this before I was born.
Well, the 90's came and went and the kids of all the 20-40 year olds installing home theaters back then grew up not caring about audio and forgot about how surround sound works. Couple that with everybody wanting to be minimalist and buying one size fits all solutions, and you got the recipe for the market domination of soundbars and 5.1 (and higher) surround sound setups being relegated to just hobbyists. Videos like this might serve to give the medium a bit of a resurgence.
I'm surprised this hasn't been done before
I built a home cinema atmos System. Basicly a 5.1 with two additional speakers on the ceiling. 5.1.2 This is so awesome, I rather Watch movies at home then in the Theaters.
Could you please get James to do a review on the full soundcore earbud lineup??
I would love to see a laptop cooling pads as fast as possible ❤
I don't like this guy
1:39 damn thats living on the edge!
Ive had my 5.1 yamaha surround sound for years and she still out sounds most surround systems .
5.1 means to make customer think of buying a 5.2 or 6 in future
As an aside, headphone surround doesn't really work. Human ears are not very directionally specific besides left and right. Other information is normally perceived (like the direction the source of sound is moving) that makes you interpret stereo sound into surround. A single one off beep is really hard to place vs a constant tone that is moving around your head. Having several drivers an inch away from your ear isn't going to recreate surround sound really any better than a single, larger driver per ear. In fact most would recommend the larger driver stereo headphones as superior.
I use HeSuVi and Out of your head software, with decent headphones
9.4.4.4 what is the forth one? Grown speaker?
why can i just have a terrabyte of ram and run games on that the instead of a ssd
history of rgb lighting?
5.1 has been around for over 20 years. It was really first achieved with DVD players and the discrete RCA outputs for a theater receiver that had those exact inputs for 5.1, which would be 6 individual cables. Optical and digital coax came out later so there was a 1 cable solution so long as your receiver could decode the signal into 5.1. Eventually this all turned into HDMI where audio and video connect on devices and decoding is standard. Sound bars are like compact receivers with speakers or kind of like jamming a cable into an old boombox and sound comes out of whatever speakers are there. Lol.
So the next thing to talk about that really isn't made anymore is di-pole and bi-pole speakers... These would be your side surround or rear surround speakers. Pretty neat stuff.
I was about to say this seems like the type of video we would normally get from Jon Martin, but then I saw he did write it!
🥺
I spent that last 20 years assuming that those were version numbers like software, ie that 4.1 was a just a newer version than 2.1.
Me who is using a stereo receiver from the 80's and yet having surroundsound by slapping Dolby Atmos on them: *My goals are beyond your understanding*
by content wise going above 2.1 is useless
Why do I watch this? I know all of that.
I’ll stick with 5.1
I'm rocking a 5.2 system these days, listening to surround-mixed albums on SACD. My front channels are superb in stereo as well because they matter the most!
It's the first time you teach me a new thing thank you♥️
Techquicke vid idea: you explained why we don’t just make CPU’s bigger, but why not make them smaller but have lots of them?
But.. is it so bad if you have a 12 year old TV that basically has the equivalent of a built in sound bar and even is 2.1 with a sub built in?
All movie theaters here are too loud imo :(
I've been using the same 5.1 set of Yamaha speakers since 2004... still kicking. It's hard to go back to stereo sound.
5.1 means you have too much money and too much spare time. The content defines a good movie, not the brag appeal.
Nice to see the Klipsch bookshelf in that video. This brand has the best price/quality ratio imo. I've got a 5.2.2 in the living room with their flagship hometheater products such as "RF7-III" front speakers and RC64-III center and 15inch sub. That's one of the best investment I've ever done... plus a condo in a concrete building so the 5 other neighbors don't want to kill me at midnight lol. Also using a pair of "Klipsch Forte III" as computer speakers in my other room, really good stuff as well! As for Atmos, it's really lame that 90% of the time when you switch from English audio to French, you get a sh*ttier version of Dolby and always lose Atmos capabilities (-_-)
